New short story! I write these in half an hour each
I live in society governed only by men, where women are known as child-bearers and useless, frivolous money wasters. From the day I was born, my parents knew I was different because of my wild auburn hair and dark green eyes. They always tried to beat me into the ideal young woman of my society. We were well off, upper bourgeoisie, but I cared little for money.
I was walking down the lane once, when I was 8, to buy some milk from the dairy for my mother in my ridiculous, flouncy clothing and painful, toe-pinching shoes and tight petticoats. I saw a woman, in rags that beared little resemblance to clothing, but were easily recognisable as pants and a shirt. She was playing a majestic golden instrument, as loud as a cawing magpie, with such a strong, resilient sound that made me determined to free myself from the bonds of this society and to play that instrument for all to hear.
Later that year, my family were invited to the Queen’s 40th birthday celebrations. By this time, my mother had finally managed to birth a son, to the delight of my father. Soldiers played the same golden instrument as the woman in the street. This time however, the sound was disgusting, from greedy, conceited men playing for money. My father pointed out the instruments to my mother and remarked, “You know, Marie, I used to play the trumpet. It’s still in the house, in the cupboard under the stairs.” Later that day, I saw the woman from the street again, standing by an oak tree, play the trumpet, pouring her heart into it. The sound was beautiful and stood under the tree listening, learning.
From then on, whenever my parents were out, I would go into the sound-proof music room, where I was learning the flute and piano, and I would play. I remembered the sound of the notes the woman in rags had played and I learnt them. I taught myself to play common tunes on the trumpet, the instrument of men. Then I began inventing my own. But that wasn’t enough. On Christmas Eve, when my parents and my young brother were asleep, I grabbed my bags that I had packed full of the more functional of my clothes and my best dress should I have a need for it and the canned food and bottled water I had been stealing from the kitchens. I kissed my baby brother goodbye. He was the only person I would miss from my family. The servants distanced themselves from what they called “Uppity, selfish, good-for-nothings”, such as my family.
I ran.
After three days of wandering, I settled down and laid my belongings in front of the small theatre built for the working class. It was starting to snow as the belated winter finally settled in. After three tiring nights, I smiled as I lay down to sleep on the rocky pavement.
For the rest of her life, Eleanor Frances Green played every night in front of the theatre. She became hardened to life on the streets. She learnt to protect her belongings and spend her money wisely. She left her family at the age of eight poured her love into her trumpet and nothing else until she died at 68. Her home was in front of the theatre. She treated others with nothing to the strong majestic sounds of her golden instrument. She never regretted leaving her family.

Here's a Short Story I wrote. It's called It's my Fault. I wrote it for the Write4Fun Competition.
Simon sank into the lounge and sighed. Every day since the he had escaped, clinging onto his life, he had felt the guilt and the memories flood and overwhelm him. Every night, he had nightmares of the horrific drownings replaying in his head. Every single second, he could see the love of his life, the hope, the light at the end of the tunnel, drowning, calling for him. His life was miserable. It was his fault a hundred people were dead.
That night, he remembered the trip on the “Trumpeter” as if he were actually there again. He thrashed in his bed, he screamed and he cried, he cried for his dead fiancée whom he had loved with all his heart. Yet she had left, left without becoming his wife.
He, Simon Crawford, was a Naval Architect, one of the finest in the world at only 30. He was building his last ship before he resigned from the backbreaking work at the shipyard and started working in the office designing the ships. The “Trumpeter” was his best ship yet, built in memory of his father, a famous trumpeter.
They had sailed 4 km out to sea when it began raining. The weather had been forecasted as clear, but it became a tempest within minutes of the sun rising, and the rain was hammering so hard that the sailors couldn’t see. When this happened he, as Captain, always trusted his gut feeling. It had always been right. The guests continued partying whilst he went down to the control room. He chose to take a detour from the mapped path because the wind was pushing the boat back and it was not a good idea to argue with the will of the sea. Little did he know this was a danger zone, full of hazardous rocks.
The boat lurched forward as it hit the rock. Its peak was underwater and struck the ballroom. Eyes wide, knowing his fiancée was in the ballroom, Simon ran to the door and found he could not get out. The control room was completely water tight and sealed off and could be only opened from the outside. He watched from the window with horror as his love thrashed in the water in front of him. He had only recently been teaching her to swim, and she was no where near strong enough to swim in an ocean.
He heard her screaming his name, swallowing salt water into her lungs as she tried breathing and finally giving up and sinking into the murky depths of the Atlantic. Simon watched blankly as he lost the woman that he would shift the Earth, the Heavens and the stars for. He saw her fiery auburn hair and her green eyes surface once more, her body limp and lifeless before he went into a state of unconsciousness, his life force slowly draining out of him.
He was rescued as the only survivor in the hundred and one people on board. He had lost all meaning to life, his dearest friends, his wife-to-be that had filled his days with joy and laughter, his mother and his beloved sister. It was his fault they were dead. His gut had let him down and he had nothing left. Realising this, he raised a shot gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

SALES
I hate shopping because you don't do very much, you might not buy anything, but you'll be exhausted! Well tomorrow, seeing as it's after Christmas and new stock is arriving for the New Year, shops are holding BIG sales. David Jones, Rebel Sport, Harvey Norman and Rivers are the stores I'm going to visit tomorrow. I'm getting a new camera, and I don't know what else. So HAPPY CHRISTMAS! :)
New Years Resolution
Well, I've decided for the first time to do a new years resolution.
1. LOSE WEIGHT
2. Eat more vegetables
3. Get up earlier
4. Talk to more people
5. Stop eating chocolate so much
6. Do not infuriate my brother or mother. Bad consequences

Memories
Terence's favourite memory was: The best memory I have of Yr 6 is of the Farewell Arch on the last day of school. It was fun to watch the whole school making an arch for those who are leaving the school. Of course, the parts that I remember are afterwards, when everyone hugged each other once more – saying one last goodbye before parting ways. It is the last memory I have of Yr 6, and it is the one I remember the most.
Zoe, 6SS' fave memory is: My favourite memories of Summer Hill Public School are probably catching a fish (20cm bream :D) at Year 6 Camp, going on Giant Swing in Year 5 Camp and winning the Year 6 Archibald Art Competition. I'm pretty sure there are many others but my brain is on chillax mode right now (cuz it's the hols WOOT) so it's not bothered.

Merry Christmas Eve!
U guys rock! I love you and I hope you're having an awesome holiday. Today is Christmas Eve. Frantic last minute Christmas shoppers have been running around all day and the streets are congested. We had a random heat wave after lunch and it was blooming hot. Generally, I stay protected with a long-sleeved jacket (thin) and long pants, but my aunt (WORRY WART) made me change after lunch because she thought I'd faint -_-. I got about 10 mozzie bites in one hour. I couldn't even find the Aerogard!
Have a very Merry Christmas tomorrow and I hope you get showered with lots of lovely presents.
Missing u heaps,
Jade

Scarlett
Scarlett is on the Senior Girls Soccer team and she rocks as a midfielder. She is known for her absolutely TERRIBLE jokes which she gets from a joke book. She was in tea party as well and she must have been born a ballerina, she's that good. She's also in the year 6 Dance Group. I'm gonna miss her laughing face next year. Good luck at Burwood Girls Scarlett!
Favourite School Memories
In the yearbook everyone wrote down there favourite school memory. I asked some people what their favourite school memory is.
Please send one to my email, and don't write "meeting new people", I would like at least 2 sentences outlining why it was ur fave school memory and can it please be an actual occasion, like an excursion, a fete or a camp? Thank you. I will put up every favourite school memory sent to my email that is appropriate.
Susanna, 6SS sent in: My favourite school memory would be the year 6 dance because i originally thought that it would be boring and awkward but it turned out to be heaps of fun and it was basically the last thing before bowling that year 6 would to together.
Sunny, 6SB wrote: My Favourite School Memory would have to well i have quite a few but anyway. I really loved Broken Bay Camp, because it was an exciting fun experience! I also really enjoyed Mary Poppins, It was supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! Then Last but not least The Year 6 Dance Which was a Blast!
Helen, 6SS wrote: The dinner dance and the year 6 show are my favourite school memories because they were so much fun.
Keep sending them in! Red and Green are Christmas colours. Merry Christmas Eve Summer Hillians!

Francesca
Francesca has such a bright bubbly personality and is completely AWESOME. She is an amazing dancer and she has a little sister in year 5 named Alanna. Francesca has an excellent sense of style and like her name, she is a free woman with her own ideas. Close friends include Sunny, Helena, Imani, Sarah L, Scarlett and Bella. Good luck in high school Fran! ILY, Jade.
Remi
Remi used to play PSSA soccer, with her stripey rainbow socks that set her apart from the crowd. Good friends include Angus R, Bea, Eamon, Chuyi and Isaac. She has three sisters, 1 older and 2 younger. She used to play the violin. Good luck next year @ Canterbury Girls Remi!
Chuyi
I'm gonna do the members of this blog cos they're well... Members! VIPS! Anyways, Chuyi/Chewy is a tech expert who wants to moderate this blog but will not be allowed to. He knows everything about computer scams and viruses so I advise you, stay in his good books. He talks too fast and he knows the most about computers in 6SS. He used to play the trombone and currently he plays the piano. He played Imagine in the year 6 show on piano, he sang Pure Imagination with Jaspar, and he was "The Man" in the Argument Clinic, by Monty Python. Good luck at SHORE next year!

Sam B
Sam B looks like he has eyeliner on (not my words) and he is really popular. He, though weird, is very nice. His best friends, I'm guessing, are Eddy, Dylan, Angus P and Adam. I don't have very much more to say about him, so I'm filling with pics and useless text. I know he was in the Talent show and had to dance with Adam in the year 6 show. Good luck in High School Sam!
The Eve of Christmas Eve
Hey Everyone! I miss you all so much! Merry Eve of Christmas Eve! Yes, there will be updates like this for the next 4 or so days, but I do hope you're having a lovely holiday. I for one am immensely bored at home. For those of you lucky enough to be on holiday somewhere, whether in Canada or USA for a White Christmas, or in the Caribbean or Fiji where you're getting a serious tan, Happy Holidays, and I hope you're having a great time. For those of us stuck in the strange "SUMMER" weather in Sydney, or in Melbourne (Sarah's there right now and she'll be there for 2 weeks), I am very sorry. Although I hate the heat, I have to admit I was looking forward to a nice, warm Summer this year. Unfortunately, I'm stuck with this grim weather.
Anyway, while I'm stuffing my face with Ferrero Rochers, I'd like everyone to submit their favourite school memory to my email: jadehylin@gmail.com
Then I'll put it up on the site. Please also send me a pic (If u have one) of the event. I know we put this in our yearbook, but I don't want one word eg. Camp
Camp, though a very descriptive word, DOESN'T tell us what it was that makes it your favourite memory. It doesn't even tell us WHICH camp. Please write at least 2 sentences.
ILY, Jade

Zanzi
She plays Double Bass in Chamber Orchestra and bassoon in Senior Band. No wonder she's going to Newtown High School of Performing Arts next year! Zanzi is a talented athlete and musician - she is an awesome singer too. Remember the year 6 show? She sang Lucky with Ella and Emma K and Rainbow Connection with Emma K. She's in the Senior Girls Netball and Softball team and she is an amazing swimmer. Her closest friends are Taidhg, Ella and Emma K. We will miss her so much next year! Good Luck Zanzi (She's also a major contributor to my Picasa Album)
New Mayor
This won't concern a vast majority of you, but I've just visited the Canterbury City Website, and I found out we have a new Mayor. Cr Brian Robson has been elected. Our last mayor, Robert Furolo ran for Labor in the Lakemba electorate in the state election.
Helen
Helen is in 6SS and plays the violin in Chamber Orchestra. She got to meet Jack Vidgen when she went to watch the Schools Spectacular live 2011 with Michelle. Her closest friends include: Me (She made me start crying bucket loads after the farewell arch cos she was wailing and crying when she hugged me), Katherine X and Susanna. She's going to North Sydney next year with Katherine X, Zoe, Kavisha and Cynthia. Good luck to Helen! You all know who Michelle is so you should be able to spot Helen even if u don't know her.
BTW, she loves Cody Simpson, Taylor Swift, Twilight, Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Jack Vidgen. Her fave colour is Lilac.

Fear
If I had a dollar for every fear I have, I'd be the richest person on Earth. There are so many things I'm afraid of. One such thing is the cushions in 6SS. Legend has it that a very gross blue eyed blonde haired boy who is going to Fort Street next year (who put jelly beans in his sock and ate them in class - ewww right?) stuffed them down his pants and threw them at the girls. It hit his girlfriend and many of my friends. I am not afraid of this boy. Rather, I am afraid of everything he touches.
I'm posting because I've just gotten over my fear of an edible, red, round fruit. You may have guessed - apple. WRONG! It's tomato. I used to grow cherry tomatoes, and the first time they ripened, I was beaming from ear to ear and I popped one in my mouth. It was DISGUSTING and it came right back up. You may not call this a fear, but I avoid tomatoes like the plague. I see a tomato - I RUN! Today I challenged myself. I put a tiny piece of tomato in my mouth. And swallowed. Though disgusting, it stayed down.
PS. You may be wondering why I'm posting again even though I said that was it from me. Well I had dinner and it did me wonders. Now I'm not nodding off to sleep on the spot!

Pics
So many of u would have noticed that most of the pics are of Sophie and her gang. I've had a few people asking about it, so I'd like you to know the pics are mainly sourced from their Facebook pages, eg. Luana, who has like 192 photos on Facebook. PLEASE send some pics in because other wise I can't really do your profile post. If you know me ull no my email.
Normal Blogging
I am gonna use this blog as my own personal blog because I can't be bothered to post on separate blogs every day. And I'm very sorry about my slacking but I have to play ENORMOUS amounts of piano every (ok, not ENORMOUS, but A LOT for me) and I need to go on a walk or to the library every day because a) I need exercise or I will become a gigantic whale and b) I go outside my house for things other than school or some other kind of class like once every 2 months during school terms because I am always drowning under homework. Therefore I must make up lost outside time during school holidays. So that's it from me or I'll drop dead from exhaustion* right now.
*= Maybe not, but I am tired. I worked VERY hard today. I made lots of clay models and I did heaps of theory homework *rolls eyes* and played piano for like 2 hours (and counting). 2 hours may not seem like a lot, but hammering my fingers on that thing is really painful.

POSTING!
I'm gonna try post every day, but now it might only be 1 or 2 posts a day. I know, jawdropping decrease but I cannot be bothered. It's my brothers birthday, so I don't really care about blogging right now.

We Bought A Zoo
I saw an ad and it said that We Bought A Zoo was based on a true story. It got me thinking, what kind of family buys a zoo? So I checked it out, and I found out that when Benjamin Mee's dad died, his mum didn't have much money and wanted to sell their 5 bedroom house for something cheaper, and more adventurous. A pamphlet lands in his mailbox, advertising a 30 acre zoo in Devon called the "Dartmoor Zoological Park" for the same price as their 5 bedroom Surrey Home. They are outbidded, but a year later, in August 2006, the zoo with its 200 animals is being sold again, after being closed from bankruptcy. The Mee family buy it and restore it with what little money they have and they have done amazing job.
It opened again in July 2007. There's been a 4 part BBC story on it, and now it's a film starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson. It opens in 2 days. Benjamin Mee also published a book, aptly named "We Bought A Zoo".
So what do you think? Would you buy a zoo?

Helena
Helena is in 6SB, and she is an awesome dancer and such a sweet person. Her closest friends are Sunny, Scarlett, Francesca, Sarah, Bella and Imani. She was in Tea Party, my favourite act in the Year 6 show. Helena loves gossip, so much so that she practically lives on it. Good Luck at Burwood Girls Helena!
Sunny
Sunny is just that. Sunny! She has a bright, kind personality which is what makes her who she is. She comes from a big family and has quite a few sisters, a younger brother and an older brother. Her closest friends are Sarah, Scarlett, Imani, Bella, Francesca and Helena. She loves Twilight and Robert Pattinson. Good luck next year Sunny! You have been an awesome friend to me :) (Sorry Don't have a photo of Sunny)
Zoe
For those of you who don't know her, Zoe is an amazing girl in 6SS. A wonderful artist, dedicated student and sweet person. When she's angry it lasts about 2 seconds before she starts laughing. She is a worrywart, just like me :P. I will miss her so much when she goes to North Sydney Girls next year with Kath X, Cynthia, Helen and Kavisha. ILY!
Eva
Eva on the right
Eva is in 6SB and she's really cool. She played PSSA soccer last year and her best friends are Ruby and Martha. Her uncle is the principal of my old school, Harcourt. Eva is always sweet, kind and considerate. I'm not sure what high school she's going to, but I'm sure she'll have an awesome time.:)
Indira
Indira is awesome. Point Blank. She is kind and plays soccer (PSSA) and she has a little brother. Close friends include Matthew T, Liam and Maddie (Sorry, I don't really know her that well). Good luck next year in high school! :)

Daily thought post - Food
Have you ever had exactly the same food as someone else, and you tried some of theirs and thought it was better, and they thought your food was better? Well this is probably because you're used to the taste of your own food, particularly if your mum or dad made it and you've eaten it before. We seem to prefer food when it is the first time we've tried it, as it is an unfamiliar taste and is more likely to taste better than something you eat once a week.
Miranda
Miranda is really good at soccer and very kind and tolerant. Close friends include Tully, Samantha, Cilera, Audrey, Morven, Sophie and Luana. She is attending St Scholastica's next year where I'm sure she will have an awesome time. Good Luck Miranda! (If u don't like the photo, send me another one)
Ciara
Ciara is in 6SH and is extremely patient and really nice. She plays clarinet in Senior and Training Band and I believe she will be attending Burwood Girls next year (please correct me if I am wrong). She has been a kind friend and I wish her the best in high school and beyond. I <3 u Ciara!
Dylan
Dylan is one of the most popular guys in Year 6. His best friends are Angus P, Sam B, Eddy and Giacomo. He plays touch footy in winter (PSSA). He was in Old People, Young People in the Year 6 show (they stuffed up the rap in both shows - LOL). Good luck next year Dylan! U will b missed!
Audrey
Audrey loves Michelle and Chuyi and is absolutely and totally AWESOME! She's in 6SH and is best friends with Stephi, Morven, Sophie, Luana, Tully, Miranda, Samantha and Cilera. She's going to St Scholastica's, Glebe next year where I wish her the best of luck.
Daily thought post - Pictures
Don't you find it kind of weird how every time a picture's taken of you, you feel like the camera hates you? Everyone else thinks it looks fine but you say, "OMG, my hair's stuffed up!" or "I can't believe how ugly my nose is!" or something like that. Even guys do it! Every time my school picture gets taken, I hate it. But I've come to realise that only I notice these small things. Other people, no matter how close to me or how well I know them, don't find anything wrong with it.
Tully
Tully is an amazing soccer player, and makes a cool set of 3 with Miranda and Samantha in soccer. Her close friends are Samantha, Morven, Luana, Audrey, Sophie, Cilera, Stephi and Miranda. Tully's in Mr Kay's class and from what I know, she's going to Burwood Girls next year. GOOD LUCK TULLY! U ROCK!
Angus
I don't know very much about Angus, but I'm gonna give this a try. Angus, or Protty, is really nice, he plays cricket and touch footy (not sure) and trumpet in Senior Band. His close friends include Sam AP and Vincent and Angus is in 6SH. He's going to Leichhardt next year and we're gonna miss him heaps. Good luck Angus!
Emma K
Emma K is hyper, blonde, bubbly and sweet. She plays alto sax and she's in 6SH. Closest friends include Taidhg, Maddie, Ella and Zanzi. She is a sweet soprano and had a few solos in the year 6 show. She sang in Lucky, Imagine and Rainbow Connection. She's in the year 6 Dance Group and plays netball too. Emma is a really awesome friend and I will miss her so much when She's at Newtown High School of Performing Arts next year (wow, long name). ILY Emma, Jade.
Luana
Luana is good friends with Sophie, Audrey, Morven, Stephi, Miranda, Tully, Samantha and Cilera. She is known for her bubbly nature. She has a little brother named Max who is absolutely adorable. Good Luck next year at Burwood Girls Luana, we'll miss u!
Katherine X
Katherine, aka Shoes, or Kit Kat is in 6SS and she loves Cody Simpson and Jack Vidgen. She is gorgeous and smart, used to play the Alto Sax and loves netball. She's going to North Sydney Girls next year, and her close friends include Katherine N, me, Helen and Zoe. We <3 u Kat! Her fave colour is pink and she used to go to Enfield.
Martha
Martha is in 6SB, and she's going to Meriden next year. She was in Bounce with Sophie and Morven and she can do the side shuffle. She is also known as Moo by Sarah L, Helena and their friends, and she is sometimes called Marfa. Martha's closest friends include Eva and Ruby O. Good luck next year Martha, we won't forget u! :)

Maddie
Madeleine, better known as Maddie is one of the coolest year 6's. Friends include Taidhg, Ella, Zanzi, Emma, Georgia, Anna, Jack and Indira. She hates being called Madeleine, so we call her Madeleine to taunt and provoke her. She's going to Leichhardt next year as a selective student. She plays pitcher on the Senior Girls Softball team and is awfully good at it. She plays saxophone in Senior Band and she USED to play flute. :) Good Luck MADDIE!

Taidhg
I thought I was gonna do the girls first and then the boys, but looks like I'm doing Taidhg's cos he requested it :). Taidhg plays flute in Senior Band, alto sax in concert, Touch Footy and softball. For a while this year he was on crutches and then he was away from school for 5 weeks. His closest friends are Ella, Zanzi, Ciara and Emma K. Taidhg is in 6TK and going to Leichhardt next year and we wish him the best of luck. (Taidhg thinks this is a very bad picture of him, and insists I should change it which is why I'm leaving it :))
Katie
Katie is one of the sweetest girls ever. She's in 6TK and for the year 6 show she was in the Party Rock Anthem Group. She plays soccer and she's going to St Scholastica's next year with heaps of SHPS girls. Katie can do no wrong. She and Hannah are really good friends :) Good luck Katie!
ANNA! :P
Anna is the most effervescent year 6 girl :). She speaks her mind and does it very loudly (no offence). She plays netball and is Georgia's best friend. She's going to Burwood Girls next year, where I'm sure she'll b very happy. Anna's in 6SH and is good friends with everyone. We Love you Anna!
Georgia
Georgia and Anna are best friends and they do EVERYTHING together. Georgia is incredibly sweet and does not possess the typical fiery temper of a redhead. She plays the flute (Senior Band), percussion (Training Band/Concert Band) and is in PSSA netball and softball. We all wish u good luck next year at MLC School Georgia! :) <3
Ella
Hannah
Hannah: She's funny, gorgeous and she's scared of heaps of things. Typical girly-girl (no offence). One of her best friends is Katie and she's in 6SH. We'll miss her heaps and we wish her good luck in high school. Love You Hannah!

Broken Bay Camp
Patricia had some photos on FB of Broken Bay (Just the landscape). Broken Bay was way better than Yarramundi. Half of year 6 jumped on the beach and into the water in their clothes - Suckers. I was playing volleyball while you guys were wet, cold and your teeth were chattering :).
Send photos!
